What do you think of when you think of a rocking chair? Grandpa rocking on the porch enjoying his after dinner pipe of tobacco? Maybe you get a picture of Grandma sitting by the fire knitting furiously and then falling asleep with the cat on her lap? What about a mother nursing her new born baby until the baby eventually falls to sleep (or the mother does). There is no other piece of furniture which quite evokes our memories to the same extent as the humble rocking chair, many illustrators even picture Santa Claus is a rocking chair, having forty winks before setting off back up the chimney. This chair has been an inherent part of our history and, as with so many other things has evolved a long way from its crude beginnings.
Today's rocking chairs may also come with an ottoman or a foot stool that rocks or sways along with the rocking chair or glider. This is a relatively new addition to the rocking chair, which contributes to an even more relaxing effect. Padded or cushioned ottomans are the most popular, which allows you to rest your tired and aching feet on a soft surface. Because the swinging ottoman provides an increased comfort, it works perfect for the elderly and pregnant women.
When ladies are pregnant, it helps the baby a lot if there is a calm swaying movement, and so a mother can definitely make use of a rocking chair to help promote this type of movement. The same is true when she's nursing babies. The slow movement really helps to calm infants and small children and so this is a great way to do this and be comfortable at the same time. The mother doesn't have to use her arms to make a cradle to swing her children this way. That can get very tiring. Using a rocking chair actually does help people get some exercise though. You burn about 150 calories an hour while if you were to sit in a regular chair you wouldn't be burning any at all. So it's time for you to start replacing your old boring chairs that don't rock.
A Piece of Furniture: Children's chairs are often a beautiful addition to a child's bedroom. From authentic wooden chairs to upholstered fancy rocking chairs to wild horses and crazy animal characters, kids chairs are definitely a great addition to the décor of your child's bedroom or play room. I have seen them painted to match the theme of a kids bedroom as well as being used as a princess's chair in a Disney themed room.
Despite the broad range of rocking, all of them are appreciated by people of all age categories. An individual may buy them at furniture stores, retail stores, or receive them as presents. Some producers specialize in creating traditional rocking chairs the information about which may be found in the internet. There are a lot of websites offering rocking not only for grown-ups but also for children in the shape of a motorcycle, a horse or a swan.
Do you remember that special day when you received your very own childs rocking chair or rocking horse as a young kid? For me it was the classic rocking horse on my 3rd birthday. Oh what a wonderful birthday! I was suddenly the mighty cowboy riding on my trusted horse (through the dry and hot desert) fighting Indians as I went. It is amazing how ingrained in my memory is this little horse on a frame with four springs. Then as I grew a little older, I remember getting a real childrens chair that had my name on it and was painted camouflage to match my GI Joe decorated room. Kids rocking chairs are a very memorable piece of furniture because they are a great toy, they can fit in with the bedroom décor, and can bring hours of quality time with a loved one.
A rocking chair is one of those things that has become a timeless piece of artwork that just outshines most other kinds of chairs. You don't see people fighting over which chair they get to sit in, unless of course the chair in question is a rocking chair. They are just so comfortable that everyone wants to be able to sit in one if it's available.
